The greenkeeper's winter maintenance guide for course furnishings
Posted by Pinseeker Team on 9th Jun 2026
Winter is when course furnishings earn their keep — or show their weaknesses. A few hours of preparation in late autumn saves days of repairs in spring.
The winter checklist
- Check fixings on exposed signage before storm season
- Move portable furniture off waterlogged ground
- Clear drainage around post bases
- Photograph everything for insurance records
Material differences
Timber needs the most attention: end-grain sealing, raised feet, ventilation. Luxewood and granite need none — one reason recycled materials keep gaining ground on traditional timber.
Freeze-thaw cycles do more damage than frost itself. Drainage around fixings matters more than covers.
