Sustainable golf highlights from around the world

Golf's sustainability story is being written right now, on courses from Fife to Melbourne. Here are the initiatives inspiring us this season.
Rewilded roughs
Scottish links courses are letting native grasses and wildflowers reclaim out-of-play areas — cutting mowing hours by half while bringing back pollinators and ground-nesting birds.
Solar clubhouses
Scandinavian clubs are pairing rooftop solar with battery storage, running maintenance fleets entirely on stored sunshine through the long summer days.
Courses that rewild just 20% of out-of-play turf typically cut fuel and water use by a third.
Closed-loop water
Australian courses lead the world in wastewater irrigation, with some running entirely on recycled municipal water year-round.
